Took me too long to understand this. I saw one in an enclosure at an aquarium in NC and was BAFFLED they are the size of a small dog 😱
I’ve only seen them far away and just assumed they were the size of a Crow or Hawk at most.
A few years after that, my husband puts a deer leg(he hunts) in the woods in the backyard and A BALD EAGLE COMES AND TAKES IT. Omg I wish I had a video. Insane.
